Catania Lodging Suggestions, end of July 2026

I'm waiting for the updated Sicily Guidebook from Rick Steves but want to get our lodging booked now since we're going at peak tourist time (late July/early August for a family wedding). Would appreciate updated lodging suggestions for 2 seniors (meaning we prefer not to have to carry our luggage up a lot of stairs or hills) that is "close to Via Etnea or within a block of the cathedral" per the "older" Sicily book. Would like to pay under $200 a night USD, have a private bathroom, quiet room, if possible, air conditioning and free breakfast. Don't need a spa. Using Rick Steves' rating - $$ or $$$ level. We're taking public transportation from the Catania airport to Catania, arriving at night. We love to walk all over and explore the sites, although we know it will be rather warm at this time of the year! I prefer to book directly with the hotel/B&B rather than use third parties.

When we leave Catania we'll take a bus to Enna Alta, before going to Palermo (by bus).

Thanks for your suggestions!

I am going there on a Rick Steves tour in April so no firsthand experience yet. I can tell you that the tour is staying at Asmundo Gisira Art of Living Boutique Market on V. Gisira.

Via Gisira is a street in the fish market open mornings. Ask about noise and which rooms are most quiet.

Thank you to both of you that replied. It was very helpful! I have been able to get a discounted rate by booking directly with Palace Catania UNE Esperienze that is also offering a special discount for booking in advance (that expires Feb 1, 2026). It's "fancier" than we typically do but we want to make sure the AC is working, it's quiet, and they have an elevator :-)
