Will be in Catania for a day in late October with a cruise. Would it be realistic to take a bus to Taormina/Castelmora for the day? Hate to pay for an expensive tour. Thanks!

We were there last year on a Sunday afternoon. We got off the boat and got right back on the boat. Most dismal city we've ever been to in our 20+ sailings.

If you really want to go to Taormina pay for an excursion. You might not get a bus back, then what. We may be in the minority but we did not enjoy Taormina all that much. Catania has a nice market, an attractive church, a terrific WW2 museum. The museum alone would be worth the stop but I’m a military history buff. Otherwise, not much. And when we were there we were clearly told that one area was a “no go” zone due to crime.
