We will be traveling to both Paris and Rome, but want to visit some catacombs. Does anyone have suggestions as to which has the better catacombs to visit in Paris or in Rome?

The two catacombs off of Appian Way in Rome are very similar - San Callisto and San Sebastiano. One is closed on Sunday and the other on Monday. I would visit on Sunday when the Appian Way is closed to most traffic and visit the one that is open.

Smaller but very impressive are the Catacombs os Priscilla (mentioned in RS' book) just off of Via Nomentana, if you aren't already planning to go as far out of town as the Via Appia Antica.
