Does anyone know the times they schedule tours in English at the Catacombs of Priscilla? There is no info on their website and they have not responded to my email. The only thing I found was a Trip Advisor note from a couple who arrived at 1:00 and had to wait around for an hour for an English speaking tour.
They don't pre-schedule tour times, as far as I know. You go during opening hours and they'll put you on the next tour in English as soon as the guide (or guides) for English is done with the prior group. I suppose It's possible there might be a bit of a wait if they're very busy and have multiple groups, of multiple languages, already lined up.
That's how it worked at the the catacombs of San Sebastiano as well.
Unfortunately our experience is that it is irregular. I assume they are waiting for a certain of people before the tour. Seems to be we waited in the range of 30, maybe 40 minutes. Cultural I think Americans like and expected routine and schedules. They want English tours at 1 and 4 regardless of who shows. We find a lot Europe is lot looser on schedules and times.
I took a Walks of Italy tour that included these catacombs. I think it was called Underground Rome. That is one way of assuring you get in without hanging around.
When we visited, we waited about 20 minutes, no one else showed up for an English tour, so they took just the two of us. That was really nice! But I agree - how it plays out is probably very random.
Yep, one of the private company tours - which are pricey but "timed" - are the way to go if not wanting to risk a wait for a tour provided by the catacombs themselves.
This is Walks of Italy's, which includes other sites as well:

There are probably some others out there but WOI is quality company; their tours have been recommended many times on the RS forums.
