Does anyone know if you can take a bus directly from Borghese Gallery to the Catacombs of Priscilla or vice versa? I can't find the catacombs on my map, and I don't know if I have to to walk out of the Villa Borghese area to get a bus? Also, does anyone know about how much time is needed to visit the Catacombs?
Try this link for info on The Catacombs of Priscilla... and this one for pictures, maps and details on Galleria Borghese
St. Priscilla is not far from the Villa Borghese. You could walk there. Figure about 45 minutes.
Or, head out of the VB near the zoo. You can catch a bus or tram on Via Le Rossini. You want a bus that takes you down Via Regina Margherita (just like the pizza). Get off at Via Saleria, cross the street and follow the signs.
The catacombs are closed on Monday, but open at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Last time we went, there were 5 on the tour. Call ahead re an English language guide. There are some. Bring a flashlight with you; it helps. Much better experience than the Appian Way. It's an amazing experience.
I second Ron's links. He has done an awesome job researching so much about Rome and its environs. Way to go, Ron!
