My family and I are traveling to northern Italy in the Spring of 2017. The NY Times recently featured castles in Great Britain where one can book rooms. Are there any such castles in Northern Italy - especially in the Lake District or Piedmont? Thanks

I'm assuming you mean Lake Como.
I've never seen any castles there but there are numerous old Villas and some of those are operating as hotels. One example is Villa Cipressi in Varenna, which is about an hour north of Milan.....

The Malpaga Castle is really very beautiful http://www.castellomalpaga.it/en/
Il is near Bergamo (a must see hilltop medieval town surrounded by Venetian walls) and in the Lake District area, half way between lake Como and lake Iseo.
