Is anyone familiar with Castiglione del Lago? I'm looking for a 2-3 night central location suitable for driving day trips to Assisi, Montepulciano, etc., and Cortona is too hilly for me. If you liked it, any recommendations on accommodations under 100 Euro?

We rented a cottage in a nearby hamlet, more than 15 years ago, so I can only make general comments on the location and town amenities. The location is great - - close to the A1 - - ; and therefore, you have easy access to a multitude of towns in Umbria and Tuscany. There are food stores and restaurants in the town, plus restaurants scattered in the villages around the lake.
