Castelmola

Not sure if anyone has brought this up but don't recall seeing it before. Castelmola is a little hilltop town sitting above Taormina. It's about a 10 min. drive from there. We went on the recommendation from the staff where we are staying. What an awesome little town! The views totally beat out Taormina. We spent about 3 hours soaking up the atmosphere and just wandering. I would definetly recommend taking some time to check it out if visiting the area.
The only drawback were the prices in the shops but it's about the same as Taormina. I found both to be pretty expensive compared to the other places in Sicily I've been to.

Yes, wonderful!!! Went there with the understand that it was my Grandfathers home town, later to find out that wasn't true. The almond wine they make is great and the town was beautiful-and the adventure made for a unforgetable memory!

I loved Castelmola when I was in Sicily in 2009. I took the bus and didn't realize they take siesta in the middle of the day (the bus as well as shops that is), so spent more time there than I had planned and ended up walking down to Taormina. I loved the walk, but I think it was key in finishing off my knee (very steep decline) and I had a knee replacement last August. In spite of all that I loved it and the views WERE spectaculor.

YeaH, I've learned to expect everything to close between 1&2 pm. Got caught in Segesta with that but it was'nt nearly as rough as the walk from Castelmola to Taormina would have been.
Got a couple of bottles of the Almond wine. It is good!
