Beware, the directions in the 2011 book are not accurate. Upon exiting the Autostrada there are no signs indicating Bolzano. If you go around the first traffic circle and take the third exit off you will go under the Autostada towards the castle. At this point you will see a very small brown road sign with no name but the symbol of a castle on the right of such. Following this sign as of September will lead you to an industrial parking lot, or a current construction site.

We just had the same experience trying to find the Reifenstein Castle! We arrived 30 minutes early for the castle tour but could not figure out how to get to the entrance from the industrial parking lot. All posted signs direct drivers to this lot which is actually located directly behind and below the castle. Eventually we squeezed out a few german words (because that is what is mainly spoke in that parking lot) and followed directions out of the parking area to the stop sign where we had initially turned in. We turned left, drove uphill and around a curve and took the first left. Sorry, I didn't write down the name of the street, however it is very steep and seems questionable as whether to descend upon or not. Take it, ride the brake and at the bottom of the hill is a parking area on the left. Park and look for a dirt and grass trail opposite the parking area where you will climb through several switchbacks to the entrance to the castle. Once inside the small courtyard, look to your left and climb the steps, cross the drawbridge and wait at the door for the tour guide to arrive.
