Hey guys, was wondering if any of you have recommendations on either of these two places and if they're worth visiting and paying entrance to. I haven't heard as much about them. Trying to decide so I can figure out if I will get the Roma pass or not. TIA!
If you enjoy castles converted from an emperor's tomb you might enjoy Castel Sant'Angelo. I went once. The National Museums are in several different locations and in my opinion are worth the time and money.
I'm assuming you mean the National Museum of Rome at Palazzo Massimo. I went two years ago and really enjoyed it. There was hardly anybody else there. Here are a few photos I took, in case you're interested. National Museum of Rome If you like museums of ancient Roman stuff, you'll love it. Also, Castel Sant'Angelo is pretty interesting if you like castles (as noted). It has a great view of Rome from the roof.
If you are here in the summer, Castel Sant'Angelo has a night event where entrance is free, and for €10 you can take a guided tour. There are also concerts some nights. It's called Notte d'estate a Castel Sant'Angelo. Highly recommend. NMR Palazzo Massimo is worth seeing. Only take 60-90 minutes depending on your intensity. There are several museums in Rome that are "under-visited" and make for a nice alternative to the Borghese, Vatican, etc. Another is NMR Palazzo Braschi near Piazza Navona.
Thanks all! Sounds like It would be nice visiting both! I think I'm going to get a Roma Pass. But does it make more sense just to buy them when we're there? Or should we buy them online (from my understanding you still need to pick up the pass when you're there though)? One other question: with the Roma Pass, what two free sites would make the most sense to use the pass on? I'm assuming the Colosseum at least. And then Villa Borghese? I would assume you'd want to use the pass on the two most expensive sites. Is Villa Borghese more expensive than tickets to the National Museum?
