Castel Gandolfo/Ostia Antica tours

I had my eye on a great looking tour with Walks of Italy for a visit to Castel Gandolfo and Ostia Antica in one day, but they unfortunately discontinued it for next year.

I have been looking at replacement tours, and I just can’t find one that hits the spot.

I know we can do Ostia Antica on our own (but as we are doing Herculaneum on this trip already, would we enjoy more ruins without a guide?) , and I was looking at the official Castel Gandolfo website, but I seriously can’t figure out what is on the website, there are so many options for tours!

Does anybody have any wisdom on the best options? Or know any outside tour companies that do them as well?

Here is the website:

I did find an interesting one with the Roman Guy, a pre opening Vatican visit, gardens, a train station inside the Vatican, and then to Castel Gandolfo for a tour around the summer palace! No Ostia Antica on it, but it seems neat!

It will probably take me some places in the Vatican that I have never been before, so that's a plus....

just to help others that are interested....

Looks like a good option, Katherine.

We took the Saturday Vatican by Train tour a couple of years ago and enjoyed it, but I agree, the offerings on the Vatican website are confusing. Looks like The Roman Guy has that sorted.

That still seems more straightforward than one of the trips from the vatican museum :) haha

And that's with significant improvements over the web site a couple of years ago! The main thing you want to see at Castel Gandolfo is the Gardens of the Villa Barberini, so be sure that's included. Just visiting the portrait gallery of the popes is no reason to go.
