Castel dell' Ovo (Naples) - Should I bother visiting/paying?

Our first night in Naples, we plan to walk from our Plebiscito apartment on Via Toledo to take a stroll along the Lungomare, sit someplace nice with great pizza/ambiance, and maybe check out Castel dell' Ovo (for the views, not the interior.) Is it possible to go into Castel Ovo for free for the views or not? I'm finding very confused comments about this. People say that you have to book on-line to get in for free, but that no website actually exists...or without that free ticket, you have to pay 10E pp for a tour. I don't really want a tour, unless anyone here tells me it's worth it. If anyone has any great advice for how to enjoy the waterfront area of Naples, please feel free to comment. Thank you!

The only time there’s a charge to enter is when there’s a special exhibit. Usually in one of the rooms inside.

If you don’t want to walk up the ramp, there is an elevator. Views are fantastic from the top.
Another with great views is Castel Sant’Elmo. Overlooking the entire city and the bay. Great night photos.
