Casentino? Is spending a day driving through this region a good idea?

So I want to try something unique. The national geographic traveler's guide mentions that driving through the Casentino region is one of Tuscany's most scenic and least traveled regions.

So my dilema is this. Do I spend a day driving through Arezzo and heading up to Poppi and La Verna. I think it would be neat to try this, but I am hesitant because I really can't find that much information on this region?

So has anyone done this before? And if so would you recommend it ie. what were the highlights.

Or would you stick to doing something more "regular" like Cortona/Montepulciano ... I'm up for a new adventure ... but don't want to end up regretting using a whole day for the Casentino region.

Thanks!
