Casalanguida

We are heading to Italy in November and one of our must stops is a tiny town called Casalangida, a town in the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is a must stop because it is where my husband's family is from - his great-grandfather immigrated to the U.S. as a young teen.

Is anyone familiar with the region? We're having a hard time figuring out the best way to get there from Rome. There is an airport in Pescara, but flying is not the best option for us.

Check difonzobus.com for the bus schedule from Rome to Atessa, which is about 6 miles from Casalanguida. Click on the British flag to get a webpage that is partly in English. It appears that there are two buses every day, Monday-Saturday. They depart at 10 AM and 2:30 PM. Although there is occasionally bus service that Rome2Rio doesn't know about, it's highly likely that there are no buses to Casalanguida.

Atessa itself is rather small, so you should check carefully ahead of time to asure that there will be a taxi available to go the last 6 miles.

Obviously, having a rental car for at least the last part of the trip would simplify things. I am not familiar with that part of Italy, so I'm not the best person to suggest where you might rent a car if you don't want to drive all the way from Rome.

Rent a car in Rome and drive to it. A little over 3 hours and you are there. Beautiful landscape too. Abruzzo is a very mountainous region and the A24 freeway goes through them.
The car rental locations net Tiburtina station in Rome are ideal to get on the Autostrada A24 to Pescara.
