As noted in other posts here, the Hotel du Lac was sold at the end of last season. Hotel du Lac has been my go-to hotel since I started going to Lake Como years ago. I was sad to hear of the sale. Someone in this forum posted that under new ownership the new name would be Casa du Lac. After paging and paging through internet search results, I found the start of a new website for what will now be Casa du Lac in Varenna. Digging deeper into the new webpage, I see that the property will now be part of R Collection Hotels, which also runs Hotel Villa Cipressi and Hotel Royal Victoria in Varenna. I think we can expect something luxurious when they reopen.
Yes, we are also disappointed in the sale and closure. I fear the hotel will reopen in the $500 a night price range, like the sister properties. Well, hopefully we will like our substitute property , that we will be staying in this spring.
For those still interested, the Hotel Du Lac, renamed the Casa Du Lac, jut went live with their bookings, with the first available night being April 10th. As expected, prices are higher than the Hotel Du Lac, more in line with its siter properties in Varenna (Villa Cipressi, Royal Victoria), plus there is new management, but the hotel is still in a great location.
Here is the current working link to Casa Du Lac: https://www.casadulac.it/en/index
The page still says "Coming Soon", but there is now a booking tab at the top right that will take you to their booking page.
Webdweeb and Brenda,
thanks so much, and yes, the price has gone up considerably. For us, it would be double, and that's just too much. And- they never did contact me when reservations opened, as they had promised.
I hope we will enjoy our back- up reservation at Albergo Milano, which was highly recommended here, just as much.
Indeed I have been corresponding with Hotel du Lac for months - tried one more time this past Monday March 16. While the finished renovations look lovely - their prices have tripled! Sadly we won’t be staying at this property but I am sure it will be magical for others!
Wow, yes, what a change in pricing and decor. If anyone hears news of what happened to the former staff, I'd like to hear. It was nice to see familiar faces over the years.
Well, we won't be staying there with the new prices. I wonder if the new management will keep the happy hours on the patio. We will stop by when we are there soon, and report back.
