We will be flying from Venice in November aboard Air France (Delta tickets). I would like to know if the Rick Steves rolling carryon is small enough for onboard carryon or do we need to check it? We will connect in Charles Degaulle Paris and then on to Detroit. Thank you for your advice.
I don't fly Air France, but you might get a more reliable answer if you post the aircraft type (I mean manufacturer and model number) from your booking. And presumably, you know your ticket includes a carry-on bag? There are Coach tickets today that don't.
I had no issues with my RS carry on on Air Canada (787-300) or whatever it is British airways fly. And my husband’s bag is slightly bigger...no issues. Is there not a measurement guideline on the Air France site?
Picked a random date in November and AF flies variations of the A320 between VCE and CDG, so all mainline, at least for that date. This also gibes with my last flight on this route in February, which was on an A318. If the measurements for this bag on the RS website are correct (20" X 13 1/2" X 9") you are within AF's carry-on size restrictions
(21.7" X 13.8" X 9.9"). Also note AF's weight restrictions (12kg, roughly 26.4 lbs.) combined weight of your carry-on and personal items. This assumes you are flying economy class, business class is less restrictive.
We flew Air France from CDG to Venice and also from Zurich to CDG. I had read that their carry on size was smaller than Delta's (which we booked through, flying out and into Cincinnati.) Our carry ons were slightly larger than AF allowed. We avoided check-in at the AF ticket counter by doing so online and printing the boarding passes online. We went through security and directly to the gate. No one ever challenged the size of our bags. We didn't see anyone else asked to check bag size either. There might be more extra scrutiny at the ticket/check in counter.
