Carry on luggage - Italy to U.S.

Hi. Does anyone know the policies in Italy regarding carry on luggage? Last time I was in the UK, I could bring a personal item and a carry on when I departed from the US, but on my return flight home (departing from the UK) they would only let me bring one bag...my personal item. This was because the UK rules were different. Will I run into this issue in Italy?

Thanks!

No, you will not. That rule was specific to UK airports (and now I believe only certain ones). Your airline may have different rules as well--generally restricting the weight/size of both pieces. However, there is no "one bag" rule enforced in Italian airports.

Always best check with your airline. I returned from Heathrow on Jan 3 via British Airways and had the Rick Steve's classic back door bag, heavy coat and my small Bagallini knapsack with me in the cabin of the plane. When I flew BA from Milan to Heathrow same thing.

Perfect! Thank you. I had already checked with the airline, but I remembered last time it was country specific. This makes a lot more sense now...because when I was in the UK two years ago flying out of Gatwick, they were fine with a carry on and personal item. When I flew out of Heathrow, this was not the case.

It was a security screening issue in London. They want only one bag per person through the xray machine. Nothing to do with the airlines
