Carrara

We are sorry to hear about the November flooding in Carrara. We hope all are okay. Does anyone know the condition of Carrara’s historic center? Are things back to normal? Are the shops and businesses open? How about the artist’s studios and marble workshops? Was/is there much damage? The pictures of the flooding online look terrible. Although are number one concern is the town itself is there any impediments to visiting the quarries from the flooding? We were going to visit for a week this April but we are now thinking it better to postpone our trip for at least a few months. Any information you can share will be appreciated. Thanks.

The flooding took place in the lower part of town. The old part of Carrara had only a small amount of damage. We walked around town 2 weeks later and everything was absolutely normal. The quarries are much higher than the central part of town anyway. The quarries are not to be missed. The Duomo and the surrounding old town with the Piazza Alberico and the house of where Michelangelo lived are also excellent.
