Carnival Lucca

Hi

I am planning to attend carnival in Lucca in February. Could anyone share some information on the experience that would be helpful. Any suggestions on which tickets to buy? I’m coming from Florence. Is the train the best method of travel? I see on the website that you can get the supplement. Is there a section that is preferred over the others? If I am there the day of the floats, what other activities are there? Any information you can provide would be helpful, as well as places to stay. Thanks.

Place to stay inside the old town Lucca walls: La Boheme B&B. We stayed there 2 years ago, although that was in the fall.

As we stayed in Lucca in the fall, I can’t offer direct recommendations for Carnevale (carnival in Italian).

I have spent a bit of time in Lucca but not during Carnival, but it does sound like they lean into it as an event.

Definitely stay inside the walls - B&B La Bohème is a nice place right in the center if that vibe appeals to you.
Don't miss the cecina at Pizzeria da Felice. Best gelato (my opinion) is Ele and Momo but there are other good places.
Take the regionale train from Florence whenever it works for you. It take a little over an hour and it's really straightforward even if it stops way too many times before getting to Lucca.

Have a great trip,

Another recommendation for La Boheme. Also, regarding train from Florence, the best ones are direct that take 1 hour and 20 minutes. There are direct trains that take maybe 30 minutes more, and trains that require a change in Pisa. Just a heads up. You can check the trenitalia site or rome2rio site to find best trains.
