I have one day to travel between Varenna & Castelrotto. I would like to go north to Colico, east on 38 to Tresenda. At this point I can continue north on 38, thru Trafoi to Merano, Bolzano to Castelrotto. The other option is 39 to 42 to 43 then north to Bolzano on 12 or E45. Has anyone driven either of these routes? Opinions? I have been told that the northern route takes about 8 hours. Thanks

Cherie: For something this important to your trip, you aren't forced to rely on what you've been "told by others." Others (including me) can be wrong, it's not our trip. It's worth your time to go to viamichelin.com and input your route to get the actual times, waypoints, etc. Or do the free download of Google Earth and then do the same thing. That's what we'd do to answer your question.
