We will be spending a night in Siena and then renting a car in the morning to drive the Tuscany area. I believe the car rentals are close to the train station. Is this walking distance from the town? Approximate mileage? Thank you!

We did it in reverse. Dropped our car in Siena aftering touring Tuscany. Our rental was near the station which is walkable to the centre; maybe 25-30 min; memory says there were elevator or escalator to help through a supermarket???. All I know is we managed without a taxi with a couple of rollies.

In the shopping mall across the street from the train and bus station there is a series of escalators and moving ramps that take you all the way to the top of the hill. Google says it takes 8 minutes from the station to the nearest city gate, Porta Camollia:

So, yeah, you just do this walk in reverse.
Porta Camollia to the Campo is about a 15 minute walk. Longer with luggage!
