Car Rentals in Italy HELP

HELP- has anyone used the Sixt company to rent a car out of Naples?
We are looking at a Renault Scenic, is it big enough for a family of 4? What is the trunk space like? We have read the dimensions but would like to hear from someone who has rented this specific model. Many thanks in advance

Haven't rent from Sixt, but it's a big one in Europe. A Scenic is a good size car for 4 people, it's an MPV (multipurpose vehicle) similar to a Ford Focus hatchback. Trunk space is decent for a car in that segment. But of course try not to pack everything and your kitchen sink. However don't assume that is the actual car you'll be getting when you rent. It might be a similar model.

Susan, As you'll be driving in Italy, note that EACH driver will require the compulsory International Driver's Permit, which is used in conjunction with your home D.L. Failure to produce an I.D.P. if requested can result in fines on the spot! You can obtain I.D.P.'s at any AAA office for a small fee. You'll also need to be aware of the dreaded Zona Traffico Limitato areas, which are becoming increasingly prevalent in Italy. Passing through these zones can result in expensive fines, which you won't know about until several months after you've returned home. Recent posts here would seem to indicate that authorities in Italy are becoming more aggressive in collecting the fines from foreign drivers and there may also be charges from the rental car firm for providing renter information to law enforcement. Happy travels!

I used Sixt last month to rent out of Rome. They were the cheapest by far for a MB C Class. Car was in excellent condition and the whole process was quick and easy. However, Roberto is right, you may not get that exact model. Sixt did guarantee me the Mercedes, but that is a limited class. As for the Renault Scenic, simply do a search on YouTube.com and you will see several reviews. They may not be in English, but you only need the visuals anyway! In addition to Ken's warnings, watch out for the speed cameras. There is a lot of good driving info on the Slow Travel site.

If you can indeed get a Scenic, that would be great. A friend of mine in Italy has it and it's very roomy inside, but I don't remember if his is a Scenic Grand. I'm pretty sure it's bigger than my Toyota Matrix. He also has a 3rd row of seats which can be folded and become an even bigger trunk. That's way more than adequate for 4 people plus 4 bags.

I used Sixt last year in Cesena. No problems at all.

We always use autoeurope.com because they are a broker and they find the best prices. Also, before renting investigate the deductible and then consider buying the zero deductible. Chances are that your credit card will not provide coverage because Italy is one of four European countries not covered. The zero deductible provides a significant measure of peace of mind. Buon viaggio,
