What are the best and least costly car rentals in Catania? Is it better to rent at the airport or in the city?

Check with AutoEurope. They are a USA consolidator and will display availability for a number of car rental agencies. If you’re staying in Catania and then renting when you depart the city, I’d see if I could pick up at a city vs. airport office. If you’re looking for an automatic, chances are you would have to get it at the airport. Parking in Catania can be a nightmare. I’d also advise - based on personal experience - renting with $0 deductible insurance. Remember that most insurance covered by credit cards is not valid in Italy. You’d have to check with your card issuer if it covered you. Don’t forget your International Driver Permit from AAA.

The airport is only 3 miles from the city center. You can check prices on your own since you know when you’re going. Going to the airport would be easier than trying to drive in the city. When we were there we rented from Avis.

We used Hertz. Picked up at Catania airport and returned downtown Palermo. Car was great. It was easy peasy.
