Car rentals for Tuscany

We are thinking of renting a car to visit the towns of Tuscany but would like to rent from Florence and then drop it off in a week in Chiusi - we start a bike tour and won't be needing it. Does anyone know what company to rent from and if this is possible?
Any experiences/advice appreciated. Thank you

We've rented from AutoEurope and Kemwel. You can check their rental locations and prices online. You should have no problem picking it up in one location and dropping it off in another. There is usually no charge as long as it's within the same country. I would pick up the car at the airport in Florence. Yes, it may cost more, however, it is a lot easier and you will be able to avoid the dreaded ZTL zone as long as you don't go into the city. Go to your local AAA office and get an International Driver's Permit. No test is required. Just $15 and two passport type photos. Check with AutoEurope for a GPS. Also go to a Barnes & Noble and purchase a Michelin, or similar, road map. We enjoy driving in Tuscany. The roads are good and it's fun to be able to stop in small towns along the way. Have a great trip!

I would call or email andy at gemut.com and let him work out the details. That is what I did when I was trying to pick-up and drop off a rental car in Tuscany. It worked out fine.

Brenda, In terms of Car Rental firms, most here seem to recommend either AutoEurope or Gemut. The latter has a good car PDF Car Rental Guide on their website. One other possibility would be to ask a Travel Agent to make the reservation. If I know I'll be renting, that's the method I normally use. It would be a good idea to rent the car at the airport or other location outside of Florence, so that you don't have to deal with the dreaded ZTL areas (hefty fines!). Be sure to obtain an International Driver's Permit for driving in Italy. Happy travels!
