Car rentals

We are planning to take a train from Rome to Orvieto and hoped to rent a car there. What is the best resource to help us find out if we can rent a car in Orvieto?

There is only Hertz in Orvieto
We always book our car rentals thru AutoEurope.com and they no longer use that Hertz location due to bad service

You might do better just picking up the car in Rome, especially if you need an automatic.

Chiusi would be another option short train ride from Orvieto

Be sure all drivers have an IDP and do your homework about driving in Italy

Lots of discussions on this forum that cover car rental and driving issues

This blog is a bit dated but still good info

Contact gemut.com to see if they have good suggestions. You may be asked to rent from a different city with more choices.

In 2019 we rented a car from the Hertz location at Orvieto (which is still in operation), and our experience with their service was very good. The office is located about a 2 minute walk from the station. We returned the car a few days later in Siena.

Another vote for gemut.com. I've got two rentals on the books with them now. It's easier to work out details with an English speaker if things get complicated. They also will send you pages of details about driving in Europe.

We have rented a car from Hertz in Orvieto, which is located right across the street from the train station. Picking up and dropping off the car was quick and easy, great staff at that location (that was back in 2017), and it was simple getting out of town and back in at the end of the trip. Great spot to rent from if you're driving in that area of Italy.
