We were training into Venice and wanted to rent a car. There are two main train stops (1) Venice Mestre Train Station - on the "mainland", and (2) Venice Santa Lucia Train Station - on Venice island. There are car rental locations within a few minutes walking from the Santa Lucia train station, the address is "Piazzale Roma, 30135 Venezia, Italy". This location worked well for us because at the end of our car trip we wanted to return to Venezia and catch a Vaporetto (water bus) to another part of the Venice, all without having to take a taxi from the car rental location to Venice. There are a number of rental agencies at this address, do your homework on their daily availability and also make sure you can return you car to this location (some might require an extra fee for returning to this location, or require a return to Marco Polo airport).
