We will be renting a car to travel through the Dolomites for four days after spending three days in Venice. We'll be dropping the car in Bergamo. Should we rent in Venice or take the train to Treviso airport?
rent in Venice. All major rental companies have an office in Piazzale Roma, where all the car parking structures and lots are located. Renting from the airport in Italy will cost you more, because of airport fees. Besides why do you want to take a bus all the way to Treviso. It's over one hour away. To get out of town, from Piazzale Roma, there is only one way out through the Ponte (Bridge) della Liberta'. Go straight along the railroad and you'll find yourself on the freeway. If you want to take the route through Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the Dolomites, follow the Directions to Belluno. Once you pass the Belluno exit, the freeway ends and you continue straight oon regular highway to Longarone, Val di Cadore all the way to Cortina. I think it's faster to take that route from Venice to the Dolomites. Besides you can't go to the Dolomites and not pass through Cortina, even if just for a short visit to have your wallet plucked by the exorbitantly priced places.
