car rental Tuscany..train to Orvieto and get car there?

After our time in Rome, we are staying 6 days in Castiglione d'Orcia before heading to Florence. Which is best...train from Rome to Orvito, get car there for Tuscan time, then train Orvieto to Florence?
Or...get car in Rome (termini) with drop off Florence?
And...reading so many negative car rental reviews...any suggestions on car rental company?
Thanx in advance!

Go with Hertz in Orvieto--across the street from the train station. It is just a 70 minute ride from Rome Termini. Check their price vs. Autoeurope.com. Either way, it will be a Hertz car.
The drive up to Siena and Florence is very easy from there with little road traffic.

Auto Europe doesn't handle the Orvieto location of Hertz (stopped a few years ago). You have to contact Hertz directly.

If you decide on taking the train, it's easier to pick up the car in Chiusi.
Especially if you need an automatic.

It's around a 35 minute drive from Chiusi to Castiglione d'Orcia.

While in the area, check out Bangi San Filippo and Vignoni.
