I think the Hilton is link by a walk way to the airport. Better than a shuttle. You are very brave to drive in Italy at 75.

My husband is 76 and rents cars frequently in Europe. Doing so in October, Hertz at FCO. The Hilton is only so-so, but it is inside the FCO Rome airport complex. You can walk to gates from hotel and there is also a shuttle. Hotel Sercy also has a shuttle. It is about 8 minutes away from terminal, but it is new and really cozy. The Hilton Garden Hotel is also close and advertises a shuttle to the airport but we have never stayed there.

Dorothy, good luck in your travels - and driving in Italy! Here's a link of airport hotels near FCO. These are the best-rated hotels by venere.com and booking.com travelers: The Best Hotels and B&B's near the FCO Airport None of the "branded" hotels really did as well according to these guests. Reading the comments, many of the guests had concerns about the shuttle services. Also, their expectations were probably based on previous experiences at these 'branded, name, or chain" hotels and perhaps the FCO hotels did not measure up to those expectations...

Dorothy, As the others have mentioned, the Rome Airport Hilton is easily reached on foot from the airport. From the terminals, you'll walk down a long hallway, part of which is equipped with "moving sidewalks". At the end of the Hallway, take the Elevator down to ground level and it's only a very short walk from there to the front door of the Hotel. There may be some rental agencies that have restrictions for older travellers. You may want to speak with a Travel Agent, as they may have further information on that. You may with to have a look at: www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2005/jun/11/budgetingforyourholiday1 www.azcentral.com/travel/features/articles/2011/05/19/20110519european-car-rentals-older-drivers.html (see the second question) For driving in Italy, don't forget the compulsory International Driver's Permit. This must be used in conjunction with your home D.L. Also, have a look at other posts here regarding the ZTL areas that exist in many towns in Italy. Large fines can result from violating these! Happy travels!

I don't think being 75 and driving in Italy takes much more courage than for younger drivers. My father rented a car at Naples airport when he was 81 or 82 and that encouraged me to start driving in Italy which had spooked me previously. So, yes, a person over 75 can rent a car. Go for it!
