I haven’t rented a car in Italy since 2017 so just wondering if you still need a GPS or can you just plug in your phone with Apple or Google maps like at home? Also wondering if a hybrid is worth the extra rental cost versus saving money on diesel.
Also wondering if a hybrid is worth the extra rental cost versus saving money on diesel.
What is the cost of diesel vs gas?
What is the difference in mpg?
How many miles do you expect to drive?
The answer to those questions will determine which option is better for your situation
Phone works fine most everywhere in Italy if you have a phone plan with data service while in Italy. We have not used a GPS for probably five years.
In Sicily right now with a hybrid Fiat 500 from Europcar and we can plug in an iPhone to get the dashboard map. Useful some times for some situations, but we still do better with my husband driving and me navigating using Google Maps on my phone. Interesting that Google has led us astray more times in Sicily than anywhere else in Italy since it can’t take account of the condition or width of a road, or ZTLs or some one-way streets.
