car rental question

hi
going to italy in may 20, going to visit rome, tuscany and cinque terre. do not want to drive in city. i was thinking if we flew into florence and got a car at airport, we could drive to tuscany, stay for a week or so, drive to la spezia, drop off car and train to cinque terre, then train to rome and fly out of rome.
does this make sense? looking for a decent option visiting these cities that keeps us out of city driving.
thanks!

Makes perfect sense
But if you are spending days in Florence first don’t get car at airport on arrival ( airport rates will be more$$)
Get it as you leave Florence
Do a search here

Agree with Christine. For exploring Tuscany a car is the way to go.
We're here now, having picked up the car in Pisa last week and we'll be turning it in to the Hertz Via Sansovino office (Florence) in a few days. That particular site seems to get pretty good reviews.
If your plan is to pick up the car and start driving immediately upon arrival then I agree with RJean that you might consider flying into Pisa as we did - well organized airport and collecting the car there was a snap.

We found that booking thru Auto Europe was the best option for us, which included the full insurance cover.
