Car rental Positano with drop off in Brindisi airport?

We are planing a 21 day trip to Italy next June. We are staying in Positano for a few days then heading to explore Puglia. Ideally we would like to rent a car somewhere near Positano and drop off at the airport in Brindisi or Bari. We would greatly appreciate any advice on the following:
1. Best city (location) to rent car? (Naples train station, airport, Salerno, ??)
2. Best companies to rent from with airport drop off at airports (or very close).
3. What car type would be good for a family of four each with carry on luggage but this is toward the end of trip so we might have a check in a bag too?

Thank you in advance for your kindness in replying. We have never been to Europe and obviously are trying to plan in advance.

Grazie!

I believe Salerno would be easiest
Take the ferry, walk 10 min or so to station, I know Hertz is right there.

We always use AutoEurope.com
Go to their site and play around with your options
Right now rental car options are slim and rates are high but it’s never too early to research.

We always rent from Europcar and have returned a car to Brindisi --- the return is right in the airport.

Not to put a damper on your plan, but check car rental prices as early as possible for your trip. I was going to do exactly the car rental you’re talking about last month but had to cancel because the prices were outrageous. I couldn’t find a car from Amalia Coast/Naples to Brindisi for less than $150/day. And that was a tiny compact car. Maybe they were just gouging to make up for last year, but keep doing your research to see if you can lock in a decent price in advance.

That said, the best companies in general in Italy seem to be Sixt (although often the most expensive), Europcar and Sicily by Car. I’m picking up a car tomorrow from Locauto, which is another big company here, so I can let you know how that goes.

If it turns out to be too expensive to pick up the car and drop in Puglia, you can try pricing pick up at Bari. You can get there by train from Caserta ( with no changes) or from Naples or Salerno.

We arrange our cars through Autoeurope; get zero-deductible coilision, which covers any damage to the body of then vehicle. With access to a toll-free number, we call them up; with so many options and potential complications this works well. When there are multiple agencies in a location, they make a recommendation.

Here is the Positano-Salerno ferry schedule:

Thanks for the info! Looks like we are going to be leaving Positano on a Sunday and I don’t see any car rental agencies in Salerno in being open, so looks like we’ll have to head back to Napoli Centrale Station where the car rentals are open on Sunday. Ugh! But we will check with some of the suggestions. Thank you.

We are still open to more suggestions however so if anyone has more to share we are very appreciative.
