Car Rental pick up: In Pompeii instead of on way out of Rome?

OK, just decided that it may make better sense to leave Rome via train to Pompeii rather than drive. From Pompeii, (same day) we are driving to Abruzzo near national park. Can we pick up car before/after sightseeing in Pompeii? This will be our craziest day of 2 week trip but we have the next next week to relax.. Question: Rent car in Rome and drive to Pompeii, then to Abruzzo. OR, Train to Pompeii then pick up rental car there? Thanks Y'all. There are 3 of us, Couple with 9 year old. I appreciate ALL the wonderful help I have received and used in planning this trip and hope to pay it forward on my return.

Yikes, I already asked that question, sort of, awhile back. I have trip confusion. Sorry, but I already had decided best to get car out of Rome, with suitcases, etc. Again, thanks to all.
