Car Rental - Personal Injury Insurance

We are renting a car in Italy in May for travel in Tuscany. I note that the insurance that you can purchase through the car rental agency includes liability coverage, but does not include personal injury for the driver or passenger of the rental car. I would like to know what options there are for purchasing that kind of insurance. Should we simply purchase medical travel insurance?

Thanks for any guidance you can provide! Love this forum!!

The optional insurance required in Italy is the standard CDW coverage, but it's priced much better than CDW most places. Where they try to profit is on the personal injury coverage and personal belongings insurance--in case someone steals your belongings.
Many U.S. citizens have healthcare coverage that also is good in Europe. My wife and I are on Medicare with a Supplement that covers our healthcare in Europe also. Our homeowners' policy would cover any stolen items--with a deductible.
We see no need to take optional insurance coverage in Italy from the car rental company. It's just another profit department for them.

Thanks for the responses. I will have my husband check to see if his medical insurance through work will provide coverage during international travel, although I assume that, if provided, it will be out of network.

I haven't checked with my credit card, but will do so now! Great suggestion! Thank you.
