Hi - I will be needing to pick up a car in Rome in order to drive to Canosa di Puglia (South of Rome).
The last time I was in Rome we rented from Hertz at the Villa Borghese location. It doesn't appear to be there any longer and I wondered if anyone had another suggestion. I did not find that location difficult to navigate out of or back to but at the time we were heading North to Cortona. I see that sixt has a location here and because I rented from this area thought to do so again. I just wonder if it makes sense given the direction we'll be traveling. We'll be staying in the Monti area.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Donna
Regardless which company you use, most companies have an office at or near the Tiburtina station. Getting out of Rome is probably easiest from there than elsewhere since the entrance to the A24 freeway is nearby. Just take the circonvallazione Tiburtina and follow the green signs directing you to the G.R.A. (Grande Raccordo Anulare=Grand Ring Beltway) and 'Autostrade'. Eventually after a few overpasses and tunnels you'll find yourself on the A24. Even if you miss some turns and have to turn around a few times, at least you don't risk entering the ZTL there, since you are far from it.
Once on the A24 stay on it, past the GRA (keep going east) eventually follow the directions to the A1 - Firenze-Napoli. You want to go toward Napoli. Keep driving, it's a long way. Take a GPS with you.
