Need a car in Varenna italy but couldn’t find a normal rental company online. I wrote Lake Como Visitors bureau and they sent me a link for a small rental company who I sent an email to (no online info) but they haven’t responded. Any thoughts
On getting in touch with them? Has anybody here used them? I know the trains are great but we will be traveling with a handicapped person and due to staying up in the hills above Varenna definitely need a car. The car company is Carrozzeria f.lil sala. Thank you.
You'd do best to pickup the car in Milan. Car rental agencies are often not represented in smaller towns in Europe.
Although there are offices in Lecco, the provincial capital at the bottom of the Lecco branch of the lake, it would make sense to rent from the get go in Milan and drive to Varenna from Milan.
There is a automotive garage located behind the rail station via the underpass. They rent vehicles there. Don't expect much choice and you won't find an automatic, but their prices are reasonable and the cars are solid. I've rented Fiat Punto's from them several times. This is the one that you are mentioning. Try giving them a call. I know that the owner's son speaks English. This is pretty mucha "mom & pop" operation, where they live above the business itself.
You may want to consider a Milan rental as well because they may not have a vehicle that will accommodate your needs.
