Car rental in Rome, return in Venice...where???

We want to rent a mini-van when we leave Rome for Siena. Where should we rent the van from, train station or one of the airports? We want to have the easiest drive to Siena and not have to drive much in the city. We will return to Venice before our stay there. Where should we return the van? Thank you!!!

We are doing the same thing: picking up a rental van on our way out of Rome and returning it when we arrive in Venice.

We are renting through Sixt, and they are delivering the minivan to our hotel, for ~16 Euros extra. We figured, even the hassle of driving out of Rome (on a Monday morning, no less!) will be outweighed by the hassle of getting 5 people and luggage to the rental office. But, you might want to consider this option, if your rental car company offers it.

This plan might fall through, however, because we're staying at Hotel Smeraldo, and we're getting conflicting reports about whether Sixt will be allowed to drive the van into the restricted area within Centro Storico. But, we have a few days when we get there to figure this out and change the pickup, if necessary.

As for the Venice dropoff, it will be at Piazzale Roma, where you can just hop on a vaporetto or a water taxi and be on your way.

The previous post was correct. When you come accross the causeway out to Venice , there are places to park and all of the rental car companies are there. It is called Piazza Roma. The big vaporetto comes there and you will get a ticket and take your luggage on the boat. Do you know where your hotel is ? They will tell you what stop is most convenient .
