We are planning to rent a car in Rome to go to Orvieto. Anyone have experience with this. Is it better to rent it online or do it in Rome?

I think the consensus is going to be to take the train to Orvieto, then if you still need the car, pick it up there. I would do just about anything to avoid driving in Rome.

I agree with the previous post - DON'T rent a car in Rome. Taking the train from Rome to Orvieto would be far better, as the trip is only about an hour (reservations may be compulsory, depending on which train you choose).
