Just read some horror stories about Firefly, which Economy Car Rental had booked me with. So I canceled. Several of the stories (crummy cars, crummy service) came from the Pisa airport office. I'm looking at Hertz and Thrifty instead. Any one got any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks in advance.
Just go to Priceline and see which company is cheapest and book with them (provided they are a major company you want to go with) Check periodically as the rates often change, if they go down, cancel and rebook. I always go directly through the rental car company and not a consolidator. No problems with tons of rentals in Europe. I like to be able to watch the rates and almost always get a cheaper rate than what I start with, and if not I still know I have gotten the best rate available at the time. I never prepay... you just don't know what can happen. Almost always use Hertz, Budget, Avis, or on a few occasions Sixt.
Try AutoEurope. They are a broker but they will rent from agencies you want. We've done that. They have a U.S. 8XX number and they speak English. Our experience is that their customer service is great.
