Car Rental in Orvieto or Chuisi

We are thinking of taking the train from downtown Rome to either Orvieto or Chuisi. Is there a benefit of renting the car in one of those places over the other? Or how difficult is it to rent the car in Rome then drive out of the city? Is there a rental agency that is located on the outskirts of Rome that we can taxi to from our downtown hotel? Also, once we make our way up to Florence, are there car rental agencies where we can drop the car off so we don't have to drive into the city?

I don't know Chiusi at all, but Orvieto is a lovely, lovely place and way beyond worth-a-visit in my view.

Orvieto has a Hertz agency across from the RR station. Chiuso has Hertz, Europcar and Avis. All three have offices in Florence.

If you Google "Rome Auto Rental" you can get a map indicating where you'll find rental agencies.

I have AAA and got a very good rate through them for an automatic-187 euro for 4 days. We picked it up in Orvieto, when I asked about the best place to park the clerk asked how long I would be in Orvieto. When I told her just one night she let us park right on the lot for free. Their lot is just across from their office at a gas station and about 1 a minute walk to the funicular that brings you up to town. It worked out great for us. Also, we only had a $300 deductible which was lower than the quoted deductible of $1,200 through Hertz. I was going to buy the $50 per day super coverage but the clerk pointed out that it wasn't worth it. I was very glad I went with the automatic, some of the hills are pretty challenging. But I had a ball driving around the tuscan countryside. We dropped the car off at the Hertz near Florence airport which was very easy to get to. Just remember to bring it back with a full tank, there are a few gas stations nearby.

Orvieto is beautiful and quaint with wonderful places to eat. The duomo is beautiful. We stayed in a lovely airbnb $182 for 2 nights, it was immaculate and had a kitchen and washer. We stayed for 2 nights but I would stay longer next time we visit.

There are at least a dozen rental offices per company in Rome, throughout the city. Prices don’t vary by location, unless you pick up at airports, which add significant airport fees and taxes.
The major companies in Italy are Europcar, Hertz, Avis (in order of number of locations).
Go to the respective websites to find their locations in Rome. The ones at the Tiburtina train station are easy to hop on the freeway and head out of town, but there are many more.

Orvieto is 80 miles north of Rome. Nice place to visit. There is only one car rental office (Hertz).

Chiusi is further north. They have rental offices f all 3 major companies mentioned above. Although Chiusi has little to show, however it’s near some nice towns, such as Montepulciano, Pienza, etc.

Thanks everyone. Pretty sure then that we will rent our car at the Tiburtino station then head out. That sounds like the easiest place to rent a car, from which to depart from Rome. We appreciate your help!
