Does anyone know how/where to rent a car in Assisi, Italy? I have been checking and cannot find a local rental.

IIRC there are no car agencies in Assisi
Perugia and Spoleto are options
We were in Assisi with a car and had to drop off in Spoleto

You need a bigger town. Where are you coming from? For example, if coming from Rome, take the train to a good option, then rent there and drive the rest of the way. Perugia was mentioned, it would require a change of trains to get there, but works, someplace like Chiusi is on the main line, and many trains enroute to Florence and beyond stop there, and would work as well.

Perugia at the station has all major companies, and so does the Perugia airport, which is closer to Assisi but then you need a taxi to reach it since the train does not get there. There are other options along the way (like Spoleto or Foligno) but I would stick to Perugia, which is closer and has more options all in the same spot.

One other point to note is that each driver will require the compulsory International Driver's Permit, which is used in conjunction with your home D.L. You can obtain IDP's at any AAA / CAA office for a small fee. You'll also have to be vigilant to avoid the ZTL (limited traffic) zones that exist in many towns. Each pass through one will result in a hefty fines.
