Car Rental in Florence - other options?

6 of us are traveling by train from Naples with a final destination of Radda in Chianti on Sunday, May 24. We were planning on renting a car at the Florence airport (the other Florence location is closed on Sundays) and then driving the 1 hour to Radda. We'll be in Radda and exploring Tuscany for 6 days so we took Rick's suggestion and planned to rent a car. After Radda we'll return the car and take the train to Cinque Terre.

After reading all the treads about the traffic zones in Florence and individuals receiving tickets up to two years after they return home we are are wondering if it's better not to rent at the Florence airport and if there's somewhere outside of Florence that would be better. Any guidance in the area of car rental in Tuscany is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you rent at the airport you can drive straight to the A1 Autostrada without needing to go into the city. You won't encounter the limited traffic zones. Drive to the south of the city until you get to the S222 and enjoy a beautiful drive south through Tuscany.

Doug - Thanks SO much for this information. After all the horror stories about the traffic zones I was worried. We'll keep our rental car reservation at the Florence airport and follow your directions.
