Hi, We'll be in Tuscany for a week in July. Would like to rent a car in Florence (and drive in the city as little as possible!). Is it possible to pick up a rental car at the train station? Also would appreciate any recommendation for a car rental agency. Thanks. Patricia
I don't think there are any car rental desks within the Florence train station itself, but there are plenty of agencies just a short walk/taxi ride from the station, especially along Via Borgo Ognissanti.
Autoeurope is a reliable US-based agent for rental cars in Europe. They will likely offer you a rental pick-up location near the train station. Drive away from the historic center and you'll avoid the car-prohibited zone mentioned above. I wouldn't try to have a rental car while staying in Florence.
Should have said -- we're flying into Florence but staying in a villa about 20 miles from Florence. We'll be parking on the outskirts and busing into the city for sightseeing. We'll also be visiting some Tuscan hill towns while there which is really why we want the car. Have driven in Europe before so have some knowledge about traffic and limited parking, etc.
Thanks for the help.
Patricia
