I would like to rent a car in mid May from Florence and drive to Siena (spend 2 nights) and then Orvieto (1 night). Then, head to Sorrento, where I will drop off the car. I don't want to drive around the Amalfi Coast after hearing many comments about the driving conditions. After 3 nights in Sorrento, I will head up to Rome where I'll be flying home.
I would appreciate any advise/recommendations for car rental companies and tips on driving in this area. Thank you.

What if we arrive in Sorrento on a Sunday? Has anyone had any experience with using a drop-off box? Or maybe I could drop off at an one of the rental places open in Naples and train to Sorrento.
May should not be bad on the Amalfi coast. Sunday's get busy but You can keep the car if you want.
Kemwel and AutoEurope is what I use. They are consolidators not rental companies. The actual rental will be with one of the major companies they work with (Europcar, Hertz, etc)
