Car Rental in Florence

I need to rent a car for 1 week from Florence. I have been told that it is more expensive to rent from the airport location than the downtown one. But I wonder if it would be easier to begin our drive from the airport rather than downtown. We are heading for our villa south of Florence (Figurine Valdarno).
What do you suggest?
Thank you!

Guess it depends how you are arriving
If by plane into Florence airport, much easier to rent the car there.
If by train into Florence, probably easier to rent downtown and likely save some money too.
We rented from the downtown location on Via Borgognissanti and was an easy drive out and to the south as you are headed.
Just make sure to map it out in advance and follow it carefully or use GPS.
The street, Via Borgognissanti is not very rushed so you have time to get comfortable before you head on your way.
After you start the car you head straight and don't turn into your are funneled into the loop road around the city SS67, you are kind of forced in one direction with no other options so is not hard.

Most branches have a rental office here (Hertz, Europcar, etc...)

Are you still going to Lucca first? If so, pick up your car there. Then return in La Spezia on your way to Monterosso.

If you plan on a day trip to Florence there are easy and short trains from Figline Valdarno. Parking at the train station.

If you check the AutoEurope website, you can see what the difference would be picking up at airport vs. train station vs. downtown office. I was surprised when in Catania earlier this year that the rental cost was more expensive in the city office than the airport. Sometimes there is no difference or a difference is worth the convenience. Research and then you be the judge!
