Looking for a good american car rental company near the train station in Florence. A location that makes it easy to leave and return with car as we are staying in a villa outside Florence.
Hertz has a location about a mile north of the Florence train station @ 53 Via del Sansovino.
You can check the Hertz website or AutoEurope.com to see which rates are best. Both come out of the same location.
The Florence ZTL is something to consider when driving in or near the historical center of Florence, if interested see the URL below http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm?fuseaction=readtopic&topicID=28422&page=2
karen, In addition to the information that Kent posted about ZTL's, don't forget that each driver will require an IDP. If you need further details, post another note. Happy travels!
check with AutoEurope for their Florence locations
AutoEurope is a broker which has competitive rates and a pretty good reputation
Like previous posters indicated, you can check AutoEurope online, or call them, for their rates. Kemwel is also online. They are affiliated with AutoEurope, however, sometimes they are less expensive. They are both car rental brokers and arrange for cars with Hertz, Avis and Europcar. If you rent from Europcar, your spouse can also drive the car without additional daily fees. One additional thing to consider is that in talking to an agent with AutoEurope, you can have your contract arranged so that you can cancel up to the minute of pick up. Considering flights and possible illness, this can be important. To completely avoid any possibility of getting lost and entering a ZTL zone by mistake (we all get lost trying to get out of a city), pick up the car at the Florence airport. This will also allow you to get right on the autostrada. Yes, it is sometimes more expensive, however, it can be easier. Pick up a good Michelin, or similar, map at a Barnes & Noble. Depending on where you plan on going, a GPS is also helpful on the small country roads but I don't find it absolutely necessary. Have a great trip driving and exploring Tuscany!
