Car Rental (from Cinque Terre to Tuscany)?

I have come to the conclusion that the only part of my "all-over" Italy trip that I want to rent a car is from Cinque Terre to Tuscany. It would cut down a lengthier train ride situation from Rimaggiore to Certaldo (in Tuscany) in 1/2, and then we would have the car in Tuscany itself. Is there a way to rent in one or the other, and drop off in the other?

Thanks - Brian

I don't see how renting a car cuts your trip time in half. You'll have to take the train to a larger town where there are rental agencies and the time it takes to rent a car is considerable.

That said, it's useful to have car in rural Tuscany. So I would take the train to a larger town newar where you are staying and pick up there. You can pick up in one town and drop in another if you rent through Autoeurope.

The idea of a rental car in Tuscany is great. However, there are no car rental places in any of the 5 CT towns. In fact, with some exceptions (i.e. private parking lots), tourist cars aren't even permitted. I believe that the closest place where you can rent a car is La Spezia and that office is not that close to the train station. Also, the Autoeurope website shows that they are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Hi Brian. We dropped our rental in Pisa and then took a direct train to CT (fast and inexpensive). The car rental lots are by the airport with great signage and easy to follow instructions. Its an easy drop off point coming to or from Tuscany on the way to CT. Not sure if this helps. have fun...
