I understand that in some countries (i.e. Italy) you cannot rent a car if you are over 70 years old. Anybody has any experiance
Not true. I have rented cars in Italy several times since passing 70. Such a prohibition would be a rental company policy, not a law. If you use a consolidator like AutoEurope or Kemwel, they will connect you up with a company that doesn’t have such a limit. Be sure to put in your age in the tiny box where it is asked for.
Italy is not one of the "problem" countries on Rick's list at https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/rental-car-requirements.
It's not a legal requirement in any country to be under 70 to drive, it is a condition imposed by some car rental companies. If you hit a problem, shop around.
Look at a short term lease if you are going for more than 14 days. On Peugeot's Open Europe program there's no maximum age.
Patricia, I don’t understand how renting a van with children is related to renting a car in Italy if the driver is 70+. Are you 70+ and your children grown with grandchildren?
Edit: Patricia's post was deleted by webmaster. Thanks Frank for catching this.
I agree. Made no sense but think someone is trying to slip in buzz marketing for the rental site. Pat has posted three times but two have been removed probably by the webmaster for advertising.
