Car rental & family hikes in the Dolomites?

Hello all,
I'll be in the Dolomites (staying in Fiera di Primiero) for two weeks in July with my 10 year old. Can anyone advise in car rentals and nice walks to take?
-- Is there anywhere near Fiera/Mezzano to rent a car? We're arriving at Marco Polo airport and have a free bus to the town, but I can't seem to find anywhere close to rent a car so we can hike and explore in the afternoons (we're participating in a music festival, so don't have full days off except the weekends). I'm currently booked to rent a car and drive from Marco Polo airport but would love to avoid that if possible.
-- Can anyone advise about nice short hikes for families?

Thanks for any advice!
Tamara

Car rental locations are mostly located in larger cities in Italy. Some new car dealerships do rent cars, but they may be difficult to find.
You might want to stick with the car rental you have arranged. If you drive over to Venice, beware that there are radar-cameras on the causeway and they hammer you for 1 mph over the approx. 35 mph speed limit.
The Dolomites would be one of the regions that is best seen with a car rental. The vistas there are glorious.
