I will be driving from Brindisi to Sorrento in a few weeks. Has anyone had experience dropping off a car in Sorrento? After I drop off the car I need to get to the train station to go to Rome. Any thoughts or suggestions on the best way to do this? Does anyone know how far apart they are?
Also, I'm not thrilled about driving a car along the Amalfi coast, but we will need a car because of the location of the house we are staying at. It's far enough from the center of town in Sorrento that it's probably the best way to get around. I made this decision before I read how difficult driving in this area can be. Is there anything anyone can add to put me at all at ease?😀
if you just google rental car return sorrento it will give you a map of rental car facilities in Sorrento, and you can see for yourself how close to the train station (Circumvesuviana) they are. You can always call a taxi or Uber for transporting you and your luggage to the train station.
Looks like Hertz Sorrento is located close to the station.
Uber? I don't think that is a possibility.
I wouldn't drop it off in Sorrento to take a train from there. I would drive to Rome and return the car in a city location that is convenient from the freeway. There are several for Hertz, Europcar, Avis, depending on who you rent from. Then after you drop off you take a taxi to your Rome hotel. It's very easy to drive from Sorrento to Rome. It's nearly all freeway. That way u don't have to deal with luggage off and on trains. The Circumvesuviana doesn't go to Rome, you have to transfer trains in Naples.
I agree with Roberto on both counts.
The highway between the south and Rome GRA is fast, pretty straight and uncomplicated.
